Man Found Murdered in Bargarh; Police Probe Link to Long-Standing Family Dispute

Bargarh: A 45-year-old man was allegedly killed in Odisha’s Bargarh district, with investigators examining whether a prolonged family dispute stemming from an alleged relationship involving his son played a role in the crime.

The victim, identified as Trinath Naik of Turla village under the Jharbandh police station area, was found dead outside his residence in the early hours of Friday. Following allegations made by the deceased’s family, police have detained a local resident, Jogendra Kharsel, for questioning.

According to preliminary information, tensions between the two families had persisted for several years after Trinath’s son allegedly developed a relationship with Jogendra’s wife. The pair reportedly left the village together and stayed outside the state for some time.

Family members claimed that after the incident, Jogendra demanded the return of his wife and sought financial compensation. In an effort to settle the matter, Trinath allegedly sold part of his land, paid the requested amount, and assisted in bringing the woman back from Himachal Pradesh.

However, the dispute reportedly resurfaced recently after the woman is said to have left home once again. On Thursday night, an argument allegedly broke out between Trinath and Jogendra after the latter accused Trinath’s son of being responsible for her disappearance.

Relatives of the deceased alleged that Jogendra visited the house late at night, threatened Trinath during the confrontation, and left shortly afterward. A few hours later, Trinath, who had been sleeping near the entrance of his home, was allegedly attacked and killed by unidentified persons.

After being alerted, police rushed to the scene and began an investigation. A forensic team was also deployed to collect evidence and examine the circumstances surrounding the murder.

Jharbandh police said the detained suspect is being interrogated and all possible angles are under investigation. Officials have not ruled out the involvement of additional persons in the crime.

The investigation is ongoing, and further details are expected as the probe progresses.
