Low Pressure Brings Heavy Rain to Odisha; 5 Districts on Orange Alert

Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast continued rainfall across several parts of Odisha as a low-pressure system remains active over the region, keeping the southwest monsoon vigorous over the state.

An Orange Warning has been issued for Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Bargarh, and Nuapada districts for Wednesday. According to the weather department, these districts are likely to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places, accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning.

Meanwhile, a Yellow Warning has been sounded for Deogarh, Sonepur, Balangir, Boudh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Cuttack, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, and Nabarangapur districts. These areas may witness thunderstorms with lightning and spells of heavy rain at isolated locations.

The IMD has indicated that the influence of the low-pressure system is expected to keep weather conditions unstable across Odisha, with rain and thundershowers likely to persist until July 26.

Authorities have advised residents, particularly in the Orange Warning districts, to remain cautious as intense rainfall may lead to waterlogging in urban areas, localized flash floods in low-lying regions, and damage to standing crops. Commuters have also been urged to drive carefully due to the possibility of poor visibility and slippery roads during heavy showers and thunderstorms.

The weather department has asked people to stay updated with official forecasts and follow advisories issued by local authorities as the monsoon system continues to impact the state.
