Jharsuguda Police Nab Murder Accused After Nearly 28 Years on the Run

Jharsuguda: In a significant breakthrough, the Jharsuguda Police have arrested a murder accused who had managed to evade law enforcement for almost 28 years after escaping from police custody in 1998.

According to police, the accused was wanted in connection with a murder case registered under Sections 364, 302, 201, 109, and 34 of the Indian Penal Code. He had escaped while being transported by police in 1998, reportedly fleeing despite being handcuffed, and remained absconding ever since.

Investigators revealed that during his years in hiding, the accused allegedly assumed a new identity under the name Raju Gonda and settled in Raigarh. To avoid detection, he is said to have obtained official identity documents, including an Aadhaar card and PAN card, using the assumed name.

Acting on specific intelligence inputs, the Jharsuguda Police launched a sustained operation involving detailed verification and continuous surveillance. Their efforts ultimately led to the accused’s arrest after nearly three decades on the run.

Following his arrest, the accused was produced before the competent court for further legal proceedings.

Police officials said the arrest reflects their commitment to pursuing long-pending cases and ensuring that those accused of serious crimes are brought to justice, irrespective of the time elapsed.
