Inmate of Drug Rehabilitation Centre Dies Under Suspicious Circumstances in Jagatsinghpur

Jagatsinghpur: An inmate of a drug rehabilitation centre in Odisha’s Jagatsinghpur district died under suspicious circumstances on Saturday, triggering allegations of physical torture and prompting a police investigation.
The deceased has been identified as Anurodh Lenka, a resident of Nagapur village in Koraput district.
According to family members, Lenka reportedly fell seriously ill while staying at the rehabilitation centre and died while being shifted to a hospital. His relatives alleged that he was subjected to physical torture at the facility, which they claim led to his death.
The incident sparked tension in the area as family members and local residents demanded strict action against those responsible and called for a detailed investigation into the matter.
Abinash Lenka, the deceased’s son, alleged that there were visible injury marks and wounds on his father’s body, raising suspicion over the circumstances of his death.
Following the incident, Jagatsinghpur Sadar police registered a case and detained the owner of the rehabilitation centre for questioning.
Police said an investigation is underway to ascertain the exact cause of death and examine allegations of negligence and mistreatment at the rehabilitation centre.
