IMD issues yellow warning for four districts, special advisory for devotees visiting Puri

Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow warning for four districts of Odisha.

Light rain with thundershower likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Baragada, Nuapada, Balangir and Nabarangpur in the next 3 hours.

The IMD also advised residents of the affected districts to remain on high alert, monitor the weather closely as the situation can worsen.

IMD has released a nowcast forecast for Puri in view of the Rath Yatra valid for the next 6 hours starting 7 AM.

According to which, there will be hazy condition with partly cloudy sky over Puri with maximum and minimum temperature at 28 and 30 degree Celsius respectively.

The humidity is expected to be in between 85 to 90 percent.

The advisory issued for devotees visiting Puri, Rath Yatra:

  • Pilgrims are advised to remain alert during Lightning and Thunderstorm Activity.
  • If heavy rain, lightning, or strong winds occur, move to a safe, permanent shelter until conditions improve.
  • Avoid taking shelter under trees, electric poles, or temporary structures during thunderstorms or lightning.
  • Monitor official weather updates throughout the day, as monsoon weather can change rapidly.
  • Stay well hydrated and carry drinking water, as humidity will remain high despite cloudy conditions.
  • Wear non-slip footwear and be cautious on wet roads and slippery surfaces around the Grand Road (Bada Danda).
  • Keep your mobile phone charged and monitor official weather updates throughout the event.
  • Elderly devotees, children, and people with medical conditions should avoid prolonged exposure to rain and crowded areas.
  • Protect mobile phones, valuables, and important documents in waterproof bags or pouches.
  • Take a sea bath only at designated and permitted locations.
