IGP Satyajit Naik Urges Public to Prioritise Road Safety

Stressing the need to prevent road accidents and protect precious lives, Central Range IGP Dr Satyajit Naik, IPS, has urged citizens to strictly observe traffic regulations, wear helmets and practise responsible driving.

The senior police officer highlighted that helmets play a crucial role in protecting two-wheeler riders from fatal head injuries during accidents. He reminded motorists that helmet use is equally important for both the rider and the pillion passenger, regardless of the distance travelled.

Dr Naik also warned against dangerous driving practices such as speeding, rash overtaking, driving on the wrong side, using mobile phones behind the wheel and operating vehicles after consuming alcohol. He advised four-wheeler drivers and passengers to wear seat belts, respect traffic signals, maintain safe distances and follow prescribed speed limits.

Emphasising the human cost of road accidents, the IGP said that a small mistake on the road could result in permanent damage or loss of life. He appealed to commuters not to put their safety at risk for the sake of reaching their destination a few minutes earlier.

He further stated that making roads safer is a shared responsibility and cannot be achieved through police action alone. Families, educational institutions and communities must work together to develop traffic awareness, particularly among young people. Parents should encourage children to respect traffic laws, while youngsters must stay away from street racing, risky stunts and other irresponsible activities.

The IGP pointed out that traffic regulations are intended to safeguard everyone, including pedestrians and fellow motorists. He called upon citizens to motivate their friends and family members to adopt disciplined road habits.

Police authorities will continue awareness initiatives and take legal action against those violating traffic rules.

Concluding his message, Dr Naik urged everyone to make road safety a daily priority, stating that wearing a helmet, using seat belts and obeying traffic regulations can make a significant difference in saving lives.
