Nayagarh Sadar Police Crack Madhuban Robbery Case; Two Arrested, Stolen Jewellery Recovered

Nayagarh: Nayagarh Sadar police have achieved a breakthrough in the robbery at a house in Madhuban village, arresting two persons, including the alleged robber and a jeweller accused of purchasing the stolen ornaments.

The arrested persons have been identified as Akash Nayak of Kural village under Odagaon police station and Raj Subuddhi of the Saranakul police station area.

Police recovered a gold jhumpa (traditional ornament), silver anklets, four gold rings, gold earrings, other silver ornaments, Rs 40,000 in cash and a wristwatch from their possession. A motorcycle allegedly used by Akash was also seized.

According to Nayagarh SDPO Sudipta Sahu and Sadar police station Inspector Priyatama Pradhan, who addressed a press conference, the robbery took place on October 29, when five unidentified miscreants allegedly broke into the house of Sarat Sahu in Madhuban village while he and his family members were asleep.

The accused reportedly terrorised the family before decamping with gold and silver jewellery and cash.

Following a complaint, Sadar police launched an investigation, examining CCTV footage from cameras installed near the house. A scientific team and a sniffer dog were also engaged in the probe.

During night patrolling, police spotted Akash moving under suspicious circumstances and brought him to the police station for questioning. During interrogation, his alleged involvement in the Madhuban robbery came to light.

Akash reportedly disclosed the names of five persons allegedly involved in the crime. Of them, Suna Dalai and Santosh Nayak of Saranakul have already been arrested by Kharavel Nagar police in Bhubaneswar in connection with another robbery case.

Two other accused are still absconding. Police have launched raids at different locations to apprehend them, SDPO Sudipta Sahu said.
