Hirakud Dam authorities to release season’s first floodwater on July 9

Sambalpur: The first floodwater of the Hirakud Dam will be released at 11 AM on July 9, informed the dam authority in a public advisory on Monday.
Currently, 93,000 cusec water is currently entering the water reservoir following incessant rain on the upper catchment, said sources adding that the water level now stands at 604 ft.
As the water level is expected to rise further, the Hirakud Dam authorities have decided to release season’s first floodwater at 11 AM following pujas on July 9.
As the water level of the Mahanadi river is expected to rise once the Hirakud Dam authorities release the floodwater, the collectors and Superintendents of Police (SP) of 13 districts of the low-lying areas have been requested to prevent people from entering the river.
People of these riverside districts have been appealed not to go to the Mahanadi River for fishing, bathing, or any other purpose during the period of water discharge.
