Ganjam Woman Succumbs to Burns After Gas Leak Accident

A woman from Kulada village in Ganjam district died after suffering severe burns caused by a sudden gas leak while cooking.
On Saturday afternoon, Bijeta Senapati, wife of Chandrasekhar Senapati, sustained burns on 60 per cent of her body while cooking.
Neighbours rushed to her aid after hearing her cries and managed to extinguish the flames. Chandrasekhar Senapati immediately took her to Bhanjanagar Medical, from where she was shifted to Berhampur and later to Bhubaneswar’s SUM Ultimate Medical. Despite intensive treatment, Bijeta succumbed to her injuries on Monday evening.
The incident shocked the local community, casting a shadow of grief across Kulada and Baghdevi Road. Residents expressed sorrow over the untimely death, recalling her as a devoted homemaker.
Witnesses said the accident occurred when gas leaked suddenly during cooking, igniting her clothes. Quick response from neighbours prevented further damage, but the injuries proved fatal.
