ECoR GM Reviews Khurda Road–Puri Section, Pushes Station Readiness Ahead of Rath Yatra

Bhubaneswar: Parmeshwar Funkwal, General Manager of East Coast Railway (ECoR), conducted an inspection of the Khurda Road–Puri railway section on Tuesday and reviewed ongoing station development works at Puri in preparation for the upcoming Rath Yatra.

The inspection focused on evaluating track conditions, signalling systems, and overall operational efficiency along the crucial route, which experiences a significant surge in passenger traffic during major pilgrimage events.

At Puri Railway Station, Funkwal carried out a detailed assessment of redevelopment and passenger amenity enhancement works, with special emphasis on pilgrimage-centric infrastructure. With a massive influx of devotees expected during Rath Yatra, efforts are being prioritised to ensure smooth passenger handling and improved facilities.

Officials highlighted that key upgrades include expansion and modernisation of platforms, circulating areas, and waiting halls, along with broader improvements aimed at enhancing passenger convenience and ease of movement.

The General Manager directed officials to ensure timely completion of all redevelopment works well ahead of the festival and asked them to closely monitor progress to avoid delays. He stressed that all initiatives must adopt a passenger-centric approach to facilitate safe, smooth, and comfortable movement of pilgrims.

Funkwal also underscored the importance of maintaining high standards of safety, sanitation, and inter-departmental coordination to ensure efficient train operations during the peak pilgrimage period.

Senior officials, including Principal Heads of Departments and the Divisional Railway Manager of Khurda Road, accompanied him during the inspection.

The initiative reflects East Coast Railway’s commitment to strengthening infrastructure and delivering seamless, safe, and passenger-friendly services during major religious events of national significance.
