Delhi Master Plan 2047 Unveiled to Build World-Class Capital for 3.2 Crore People

The Centre has unveiled the Delhi Master Plan 2047, a long-term roadmap aimed at transforming the national capital into a world-class, inclusive and environmentally sustainable city for nearly 3.2 crore people.
The plan focuses on economic growth, technology, better infrastructure and improved quality of life while protecting Delhi’s historical and cultural heritage.

The Master Plan adopts two approaches—area-based redevelopment for existing brownfield areas and Right of Way-based planning for greenfield areas. It will promote transit-oriented development, mixed-use projects, better road connectivity and sustainable land use.
Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Manohar Lal said around 40 lakh new affordable housing units are expected to be added in Delhi in the coming years. A dedicated Transit Oriented Development (TOD) policy will also strengthen public transport corridors.

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said the plan aims at the overall development of the capital, including rural areas, unauthorised colonies and planned areas. She said housing, transport requirements and pollution challenges have been given special attention.
Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu said the plan will provide a roadmap for vertical development, quality housing, transit-oriented growth and knowledge, education and medical hubs while preserving Delhi’s heritage.
