Government Allows Duty-Free Import of 10 Lakh MT Raw Sugar

The government has permitted duty-free imports of up to 10 lakh metric tonnes of raw sugar until October 31, 2026.

The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) announced the decision through a notification, allowing the imports under a Tariff Rate Quota (TRQ), subject to certain conditions.

The move is aimed at strengthening domestic sugar supplies ahead of the upcoming festive season, when demand is expected to rise. India is currently the world’s second-largest sugar producer.
