Couple alleges newborn went missing after delivery at Umerkote Hospital

Umerkote: A couple in Odisha’s Nabarangpur district has alleged that their newborn baby was snatched by a doctor after its birth in a hospital and they were later told the child had died.

As per the complaints of Dhanamati Santa and her husband Kamal Santa of Gabariguda village in Sukigaon panchayat, Dhanamati gave birth to a baby boy at Umerkote Hospital on April 2.

Initially they were told a baby boy was born.

Later, staff allegedly took the baby away and the hospital referred Dhanamati to Koraput Medical College and Hospital after taking Kamal’s signature on some documents.

After returning from Koraput, the couple were told their baby had died but were not given the body.

With no options left, the helpless couple have now lodged a complaint with the local police, accusing the doctor, who works in the government hospital.

Police is now expected to launch an investigation into this matter.
