Cobra Pair and 27 Hatchlings Rescued from House in Bhadrak

Bhubaneswar: A major snake rescue operation was carried out in Bhadrak district after a pair of cobras and 27 hatchlings were found inside a residential house in Bhatpur village under Haripur Panchayat.
The incident came to light when members of a family residing in the house of Sanatan Behera heard unusual hissing sounds from a corner of their home on Thursday evening. Concerned about the source of the noise, they immediately contacted the Snake Helpline for assistance.
Responding to the call, snake rescuer Mirza Arif reached the location and conducted a thorough search of the premises. During the operation, he recovered an adult male cobra, an adult female cobra and 27 newborn hatchlings from the house.
According to reports, the female cobra had laid eggs inside a crack in an earthen wall within the house. The eggs subsequently hatched, resulting in the presence of dozens of young snakes in the dwelling.
The rescue created considerable excitement among local residents, who gathered at the spot to witness the operation. Villagers said snake sightings are not uncommon in the area as Bhatpur is located close to a river, making it a natural habitat for reptiles.
Incidents involving the rescue of multiple snakes from residential areas have been reported from different parts of Bhadrak district in recent years, particularly during the monsoon season when reptiles often seek shelter in human settlements.
All the rescued snakes were safely captured and later released into a suitable natural habitat, officials said.
