BMC Clears Over 200 Tonnes of Garbage from Durga Puja Mandaps in Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: In a major post-festive cleanup drive, the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has removed more than 200 tonnes of garbage and waste materials from Durga Puja mandaps across the city. The extensive sanitation effort was carried out to restore cleanliness and maintain hygiene following the festive celebrations.

According to BMC officials, the cleaning teams completed the task by evening under a strict zero-waste policy. Around 800 metric tonnes of dry garbage are being cleared daily as part of the city’s ongoing sanitation drive.

To ensure efficiency, the civic body deployed additional staff and 15 garbage collection vehicles operating in two shifts to collect waste from mandaps and nearby food kiosks. The collected waste was transported to the Material Recovery Facility (MRF) and Micro Composting Centre (MCC) for proper processing and recycling.

The BMC has also maintained a strong stance against plastic waste and garbage burning, successfully preventing such practices for the third consecutive year. Multiple enforcement squads were stationed across key areas to monitor compliance and ensure smooth waste management operations.

Officials stated that the initiative reflects BMC’s commitment to keeping Bhubaneswar clean and sustainable even during high-footfall festive occasions.
