NHAI Issues Fresh Standards for High-Speed Access-Controlled Highways

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has introduced new planning and design guidelines for high-speed, access-controlled National Highway corridors.
According to the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, the new framework will be applicable to all upcoming four-lane and six-lane Greenfield and Brownfield access-controlled highway projects.

The guidelines are aimed at standardising the preparation of Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) and ensuring greater uniformity in engineering and technical practices across high-speed highway projects. The framework is also expected to enhance road safety, improve traffic operations and promote consistency across the National Highway network.

The Ministry said the initiative is part of the government’s long-term infrastructure strategy under Viksit Bharat 2047, which envisages developing around 50,000 km of access-controlled high-speed corridors.
