Angul: Jarapada Police Station ASI in Vigilance net

Angul: In a swift anti-corruption operation today, Odisha Vigilance apprehended Sita Nayak, Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of Jarapada Police Station in Angul district, Odisha while allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 8,000 from a complainant.
According to Vigilance officials, Nayak was the investigating officer in a case recently registered at Jarapada PS. She allegedly demanded Rs 10,000 from the complainant to settle the matter after a compromise report was filed by the complainant and his opponent. When the complainant expressed inability to pay Rs 10,000, the ASI reduced the amount to Rs 8,000. Unwilling to pay, the complainant alerted Vigilance authorities.
Acting on the tip-off, a Vigilance team laid a trap and caught Nayak red-handed today inside the Jarapada Police Station campus while accepting Rs 8,000. The entire bribe amount was recovered and seized from Nayak’s exclusive possession.
Following the trap, simultaneous searches are underway at two locations linked to the ASI from a disproportionate assets (DA) angle.
Cuttack Vigilance PS has registered Case No. 23 dated 12.06.2026 under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018.
Investigation against accused ASI Sita Nayak is in progress. A detailed report is awaited.
