CM Majhi Raises Concern Over Illegal Sand Smuggling Despite Departmental Shift

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has expressed deep concern over the ongoing illegal transportation of sand in the state, despite a recent administrative shift in responsibilities.

Speaking at a conference of Revenue Officers, the Chief Minister pointed out that although the management of minor minerals, including sand, was transferred from the Revenue Department to the Department of Mines, illegal sand smuggling continues unchecked.

“This is a matter of serious concern,” CM Majhi stated. “Despite the change in departmental oversight, the illegal transport of sand has not come under control.”

The Chief Minister further added that if the responsibility of managing minor minerals is reassigned to Revenue officials, it is expected that they would handle the issue more efficiently and curb the illegal activity more effectively.

The remarks come amid growing scrutiny over the enforcement of mining regulations and the need for stricter monitoring mechanisms.
