Bhubaneswar Uses AI to Issue 1,800 Daily Traffic Challans, Deploys Ex-Servicemen

Bhubaneswar: In a strong move to curb traffic violations, the Bhubaneswar Traffic Police have intensified enforcement measures, issuing over 1,800 challans daily, amounting to fines worth approximately ₹18 lakh. The action is based on evidence captured through Artificial Intelligence (AI)-enabled cameras installed across the city.

Speaking to the media on Saturday, Traffic Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Tapan Kumar Mohanty said that traffic surveillance and enforcement will be further strengthened in the coming days. “Strict action is being taken against violators through AI camera footage, and we plan to intensify traffic checks to ensure road discipline,” he stated.

In a bid to improve traffic management, the department has also deployed ex-servicemen at various traffic posts. A total of 136 ex-servicemen have been trained and stationed at 250 designated traffic points across the city to assist with regulation and monitoring.

These steps are part of a broader initiative to streamline urban mobility and enhance road safety in the Odisha capital.
