Jharsuguda Police Encounter: Notorious Criminal Jay Chauhan Injured During Operation
A major police operation in Odisha’s Jharsuguda district resulted in the injury of a notorious criminal during an encounter on Saturday morning. The incident took place near Gandhi Chhaka in Brajarajnagar under the Rengali police limits.
According to police sources, the accused, identified as Jay Chauhan, was allegedly planning a robbery along with several associates when law enforcement officials launched a targeted operation based on intelligence inputs.
Officials said the operation was conducted after receiving specific information about a suspected robbery attempt in the area. When police teams reached the location and attempted to intercept the suspects, Chauhan allegedly opened fire.
Police personnel responded, leading to an exchange of gunfire. During the encounter, Jay Chauhan sustained a bullet injury to his right leg. His associates managed to flee the scene and are currently being traced by investigators.
The injured accused was immediately shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital for medical treatment.
Police records indicate that Jay Chauhan is linked to more than 10 serious criminal cases, including offences related to violent crime and robbery.
Authorities described him as a repeat offender who had been under surveillance due to his alleged involvement in several criminal activities across the region.
Eastern Range Inspector General Himanshu Lal confirmed the encounter and stated that the operation was carried out following established procedures.
“This was a targeted operation based on actionable intelligence. The police acted to prevent a serious crime and ensure public safety. The injured accused is receiving medical care, while efforts are underway to locate and apprehend the remaining suspects,” he said.
Police teams have intensified search operations to trace the accomplices who escaped during the encounter. Investigators are also examining Chauhan’s alleged criminal network and possible links to other offences in the region.
Local residents welcomed the swift police response, noting that the accused’s alleged criminal activities had created concern among people in the area.
