Puri Gears Up for BRICS Disaster Risk Reduction Meet With Multi-Layered Security Arrangements

Bhubaneswar: Elaborate security and administrative arrangements have been put in place for the BRICS Technical Meeting of the Disaster Risk Reduction Working Group, scheduled to be held in Puri from June 3 to 5 under India’s BRICS Presidency.

According to district officials, a comprehensive three-tier security system has been implemented to ensure the smooth conduct of the international event. Authorities have prioritised safety, security, sanitation, and traffic management, while extensive coordination meetings have been held with various departments to review preparedness.

The entire city, including hotels and the conference venue, will remain under round-the-clock CCTV surveillance. Officials said strict monitoring mechanisms have been established to maintain a secure environment for all participants.

The three-day meeting will be hosted at the Taj Puri Resort and is expected to bring together delegates, policymakers, and experts from BRICS member nations to deliberate on disaster risk reduction, resilience-building strategies, and global cooperation in disaster management.

Puri is set to welcome representatives from 11 countries, including Brazil, Russia, China, South Africa, Egypt, Ethiopia, Indonesia, Iran, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates. Discussions during the event will focus on sharing best practices, strengthening international collaboration, and enhancing early warning systems for disaster preparedness.

Meanwhile, intensive reviews of arrangements are underway at the venue. Officials noted that the global spotlight will be on the pilgrim city during the summit, which marks the first international conference of this scale to be hosted in Odisha.

Hospitality sector stakeholders have also expressed optimism that the high-profile gathering will enhance Puri’s international visibility and provide a significant boost to tourism in the state.
