Bhubaneswar, Aug 15

The National Tricolour fluttered over buildings—both private and government, State Secretariat and Raj Bhawan tastefully decorated in colourful lights while the people hoisted the national flags atop their houses as the country celebrated the 75th Amrit Mahotsav—Independence Day on Monday across the state.

It was Har Ghar Tiranga and Har Haath Tiranga. The spirit was overwhelming as the proud nation showcased its progress.

School children carried national flags in their hands and congregated at their schools to celebrate the Day as the Chief Minister addressed the people on the occasion describing the march of the State on the path of progress.

It was a sea of saffron, white and green everywhere—shops, business establishments, vehicles and three wheeler public transport carriers as functions were held in educational institutions and government offices to mark the day.

Newspapers carried huge advertisements and broadcast media-radio and television- planned special programmes in praise of the heroes who fought or struggled to achieve independence for the country from the yoke of foreign rulers.

The horrors of partition times were depicted through an exhibition by the East Coast Railways on the eve of the day also and symposia and debate competitions organized to remember the sacrifices of the freedom fighters.
