BMC Mayor appeals for ‘Dry Day’ to fight Dengue

Bhubaneswar, July 29

City Mayor Sulochana Das has urged the people in the capital city to observe Thursday and Sunday as ‘dry days’ to break the breeding cycle of Aedes aegypti mosquitoes that transmit the dengue virus.

In a video message, she said that currently, dengue cases are rising in the city and Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has taken a slew of steps for creating awareness on dengue which is a viral infection transmitted to humans through the bite of infected mosquitoes.

She said the Civic body is organizing street plays to door-to-door campaigns to spread awareness and undertaking fogging and spraying of insecticide in different places and emphasis is being laid on sanitation.

Still, a lot remains to be done which is causing the breeding of mosquitoes causing dengue. We again appeal to you all to observe dry days on Thursdays and Sundays to break the 7-day cycle required breeding of the dengue-causing mosquitoes,” Das said in her message.

She said that there a need to identify the breeding places of dengue-causing mosquitoes which is stagnant water on hard surfaces.

“So therefore we need to identify any container with stagnant water and keep upturned on two days-Thursday and Sunday so that the cycle breaks and breeding of mosquitoes stop,” she explained.
