Cops students face-off at Vani Vihar

(Reporters Today, Bhubaneswar): Tension mounted in Utkal University (Vani Vihar) campus on Monday after a group of students had a serious face off with police personnel during a protest staged by them here. Over 500 students of the university staged a protest and later gheraoed the office of Vice-Chancellor (VC) pressing for fulfillment of a 10-point chatter of demands, reports said.

Shifting of the Campus main gate from its current location to avoid accidents caused due to entry from wrong side and conversion of the current entrance to exit was one of the main demands of the students. The students have also alleged of mismanagement in hostels.

As part of the protest, the protesters asked the students to vacate classrooms disrupting classes. The situation turned violent when police tried to prevent the students from entering the chamber of VC Soumendra Mohan Patnaik. The police and students man manhandled with each other. To avoid any annoying incident police have been deployed here in large numbers.
