HSC exam pass percentage dips by 5.49 pc

Surjit Kumar Dhal,Cuttack, May 22: The result of annual High School Certificate (HSC) Examination-2019, announced on Tuesday, seems to have brought not enough cheers for students this year as 70.78 percent of them made their grades thereby dipping the success rate to 5.49 per cent.

          The results announced by Principal Secretary, School and Mass Education Department, PK Mohapatra at Board of Secondary Education headquarters here reflected around 5.49 percent decrease in the overall pass percentage as compared to the 76.23 percent in 2018.

A total of 72.35 percent students in the regular stream have succeeded in the 2019 HSC examination against the record of 77.35 percent passing of regular students in 2018.

The current year’s pass out percent of ex-regular students is 37.43 as against the 46.13 percent in 2018.

        This year as many as 5,62,213 students in all the streams from regular, ex-regular, correspondence regular and correspondent ex- regular had appeared for the matriculation examination held in total 2,830 Examination Centers across the state from February 22 to March 8 of whom 3,97,125 students have passed.

          A total 1,181 students have achieved A1 grade securing more than 90 percent marks. While 9,938 students have obtained A2 grade ( 80 to 89 percent marks), 24,991 students secured B1 grade (70 to 79 percent marks), 46,319 students got B2 grade(60 to 69 percent marks), 76,139 students availed C grade (50 to59 percent of marks), 1,16,262 students obtained D grade (40 to 49 percentage of marks) and 1,22,062 students got E grade ( 30 to 39 percent of marks). The rest 1,63,954 students have availed F grade.

                A total 5,35,860 students had appeared from the regular stream of whom 3,86,931 students have been successful. The percentage of pass rate of regular students is 72.35.

Similarly, out of total 24,178 students appearing in the ex-regular stream, as many as 9,021 students have been successful registering a pass rate of 37.43.

         This time also, the girls maintained their supremacy over boys.

While 2,05,470 girls have been successful in the current year HSC examination as many as 1,91,655 boys have passed the HSC exam.

        Among the 30 districts, Jharsuguda posted a record of highest 85.48 percent of pass rate. The lowest 50.61 percent of pass rate has been reported in Koraput district.

        Not a single student from Nuapada and Deogarh district has been able to avail A1 Grade. Out of 1180 A1 grade holder from regular passed out students, while 601 are boys the rest 579 are girls. A student from Ex-Regular Category has been able to bag A1 grade.

As many as 9,938 A2 grade students includes 9,933 regular, 4 Ex-Regular and a Correspondent Course (Regular) student. Total 24,991 B1 grades include 24,972 Regular, 12 Ex-Regular and 7 Correspondent Course(Regular)students. 46,319 B2 grade include 46165 Regular, 58 Ex-Regular, 96 CC-Regular students.

Similarly, out of 76,139 ‘C’ grade students, 75,613 belong to regular, 298 from ex-regular, 226 from CC-Regular and two from CC-Ex regular.

A total 1,16,262 ‘D’ grade students include 1,14,058 Regular, 1825 Ex-Regular, 360 CC-Regular, and 19 from CC-Ex-Regular.

Similarly there are 1,15,010Regular, 6592 EX-Regular, 433 CC-Regular, and 27 from CC-Ex-Regular students who secure the ‘E’ grade.

As many as 43 students, including 22 boys belonging to Scheduled Caste(SC) community and 9 student including 7 boys from Scheduled Tribe(ST) community, have been able to bag A1 grade.

Last year as many as 73 students belonging to Scheduled Caste(SC) community and 13 from Scheduled Tribe(ST) community were able to bag A1 grade.

However, the overall pass percentages of SC and ST students are unimpressive at 63.96 and 64.46 respectively. Last year, the pass percentage of SC and ST students were at 70.34 and 71.94 respectively.

The Board also announced the Sanskrit Madhyama Examination result which reflected a pass percentage of 84.62.

Its last year pass percentage was 92.47.

A total 3,614 students had appeared the Madhyama examination of whom 3,015 have passed.

However, not a single Madhyama student has been able to bag either A1 or A2 grade.

The BSE has also declared the results of State Open School Certificate Examination-2019 which reflected a pass percentage of 58.52.

Out of 11,355 students appearing in the examination, as many as 6,567 students cleared the examination.

However, not a single student has been able to bag either A1 or A2 grade, informed BSE, President Jahan Ara Begum adding that the HSC supplementary examination would be conducted in last week of June .

According to BSE sources, out of total 5,72,696 students of 8,890 High Schools who had enrolled their name for HSC examination, 5,62,213 students belonging to Regular, Ex-Regular, Correspondence Course Regular and Correspondence Course Ex-Regular had appeared the examination.

Total 1124 examinees were booked for malpractice. Three examination centers were scratched for mass copying. As per the decision of the examination committee, the missing 108 OMR sheet missing incident of Malkangiri district has been settled by warding average mark to students basing the marks secured in subjective papers.

There has been a rise in the report of NIL(zero) result. As many as 82 High Schools have shown nil result. Last year the nil result schools figure was at 36.

“There is nothing to worry about decline in pass percentage. “We had reformed the examination process and pattern in respect of selection of examination centers, question paper, tightening the surveillance system besides taking measures to curb malpractice which has been reflected the result, said Mohapatra.
