Nayagarh: In a major crackdown on ganja smuggling, Banigochha police in Odisha’s Nayagarh district have seized 72 kg of cannabis concealed in a secret chamber of a Tata Sumo vehicle and arrested one person in connection with the case.
According to police, the seizure was made during vehicle checking near the Hanuman temple at Kamitipanga Chhak. Police intercepted a maroon-coloured Tata Sumo and, during inspection, discovered a specially designed secret compartment containing ganja.

The accused has been identified as Mantu, reportedly a resident of the Baliguda police station area. Police seized the contraband, the vehicle used for transportation and a mobile phone. The arrested person was subsequently forwarded to court.
The incident highlights the innovative methods allegedly being adopted by drug traffickers to evade police and Excise Department checks.

Meanwhile, allegations have surfaced regarding the involvement of a constable posted at the Nayagarh Excise Department’s Sadar police station in the ganja smuggling network. The department has reportedly initiated an inquiry into the allegations.
