IMF Upgrades India’s FY27 Growth Outlook to 7%, Citing Strong Domestic Demand

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has raised its economic growth projection for India to 7 per cent for the 2026-27 financial year, marking a significant increase from its earlier estimate of 6.4 per cent announced in July.
In its latest World Economic Outlook report, the IMF attributed the upward revision to stronger-than-anticipated economic performance, steady domestic consumption and continued growth in the services sector.

The global financial institution highlighted India’s strong economic fundamentals, noting that favourable demographic trends, an expanding domestic market and ongoing structural reforms are contributing to the country’s growth prospects.
India’s improved outlook follows the Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) recent decision to revise its GDP growth forecast for the current financial year to 7.1 per cent, reflecting confidence in the economy’s resilience.

The IMF has also increased its growth projection for India in the 2027-28 financial year by 0.3 percentage points to 7 per cent. The revised estimates underline expectations that India will maintain its strong economic expansion over the coming years.
