Odisha Governor Calls for Everyday Climate Action

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati has urged people to make environmental protection a regular part of their lives, stressing the need for immediate and collective action against climate change.
Speaking at the Earth Again Conference 2026 at Utkal University, organised by Sambad, Kambhampati said the theme “Gen-C” (Generation Climate) rightly focused on young people, who will have a major role in addressing environmental challenges.

He pointed to rising temperatures, changing rainfall patterns and falling water levels as visible signs of climate change. He also referred to melting glaciers and stressed that economic development should not come at the cost of natural resources.
The Governor called for greater use of renewable energy and electric vehicles, saying sustainable choices should begin at home. He cited free EV charging facilities provided to staff at the Governor’s Secretariat and suggested similar arrangements at university campuses to encourage students to use electric vehicles.

Kambhampati also urged people to preserve existing trees and increase plantation activities. He suggested incorporating tree planting into festivals and other celebrations to promote environmental awareness.
Highlighting the economic importance of clean energy, he said expanding renewable energy could help reduce India’s crude oil imports and support the national economy.
The Governor also asked universities in Odisha to work towards green certification for their campuses and expressed hope that Utkal University would achieve the goal before his next visit.
He emphasised that institutions, students and the media must work together to turn environmental awareness into wider public participation and meaningful action. He also appreciated Sambad for organising the conference and promoting environmental initiatives.
