Gandhi, Shastri Remembered on Birth Anniversaries

India today paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi and former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri on their birth anniversaries. A multi-faith prayer meeting was held at Rajghat, where President Droupadi Murmu offered floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi. Vice President C. P. Radhakrishnan, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Union Minister Manohar Lal and Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta also paid their respects.
On Gandhi Jayanti, PM Modi recalled Gandhi’s message of truth, non-violence, compassion and service, saying his ideals continue to inspire society and the vision of a developed India.

Tributes were also paid to Lal Bahadur Shastri at Vijay Ghat. Born on October 2, 1904, Shastri joined the freedom movement as a young man and later served in key positions in Uttar Pradesh and the Union Government before becoming Prime Minister.

Meanwhile, Delhi Traffic Police announced special arrangements around Rajghat and Vijay Ghat. Traffic restrictions and diversions may remain in place from 5 AM to 11 AM, particularly on Ring Road and nearby stretches. Commuters have been advised to avoid the affected routes, plan ahead and use the Metro or other public transport where possible.
