Over 1.56 Lakh Schools Covered Under UIDAI Drive

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has completed more than 2 crore mandatory biometric updates for school children across the country as part of its nationwide drive.
Launched in September last year, the special campaign has reached over 1.56 lakh schools, allowing students to update their Aadhaar biometrics at their schools. The initiative has made the process easier and more accessible for children and their families.

Children below the age of five are enrolled in Aadhaar with demographic details and photographs, while fingerprints and iris scans are added later as their biometrics develop. Mandatory biometric updates are required at the ages of 5 and 15 years.

To encourage timely updates, UIDAI waived the charges for children aged 7 to 15 years from October 1, 2025, for one year. Officials said timely biometric updates are important to avoid authentication issues while accessing government schemes and appearing for competitive or university examinations.
