Six Arrested as Khordha Police Bust Brown Sugar Racket, Seize 278 Grams of Contraband

Khordha: In a major anti-narcotics operation, Khordha Police dismantled an alleged brown sugar distribution network by conducting two coordinated raids in different parts of the district on Tuesday. The raids resulted in the seizure of 278 grams of brown sugar, the arrest of six accused, and the recovery of a firearm along with other incriminating materials.

The biggest seizure took place within the jurisdiction of Khordha Sadar police station, where officers recovered 257 grams of brown sugar during a raid near Hanuman Temple at Dalaiput. Acting on credible intelligence about illegal drug transactions in the area, police intercepted four suspects and took them into custody. During the search, officials also recovered a country-made pistol, live ammunition, cash and other articles believed to be connected to the illegal trade.

In another operation under the Banapur police limits, law enforcement personnel seized an additional 21 grams of brown sugar and arrested two more individuals allegedly involved in narcotics trafficking.

Khordha Superintendent of Police P. Smit Parmar said the twin operations led to the recovery of a total of 278 grams of brown sugar and the arrest of six persons. He added that one accused managed to evade arrest and efforts are underway to locate and apprehend the absconding suspect.

The SP said the district police have stepped up their campaign against the illegal drug trade and revealed that more than one kilogram of brown sugar has been seized from different parts of Khordha over the last one-and-a-half months.

Separate criminal cases have been registered in connection with both raids. Police are continuing their investigation to trace the source of the contraband and identify others who may be linked to the trafficking network.
