Preparation for 2027 Panchayat and Municipal Elections, SEC directs to make voter list error-free
Bhubaneswar: Preparations underway for the 2027 Panchayat and Municipal Elections. The State Election Commission (SEC) holds video meeting with District Collectors different points including door-to-door survey and making the Voter list error-free.
As per reports, directive has been issued by the SEC in this regard. For the purpose of preparing an accurate booth-wise voter list for the Panchayati Raj Institutions and Urban Local Body elections to be held in 2027, a statewide door-to-door survey will be conducted.
A high-level video conference was organized today by the State Election Commission to finalize its framework. The meeting began at 11:30 AM under the chairmanship of the State Election Commissioner through the OSWAN platform.
In the meeting detailed discussions were held on the proposed door-to-door survey, preparation of a new booth-wise voter list, and verification of voter data at the grassroots level.
The Commission stressed on proper field-level verification to identify errors in the voter list, duplicate names, and names of deceased or migrated voters, along with including eligible new voters.
The Commission expressed that this will help make the 2027 local elections more transparent, free and inclusive. All Collectors and District Magistrates were asked to join the meeting from their district’s OSWAN centres.
Along with them, ADMs and ULB Nodal Officers, EROs, AEROs and concerned Deputy or Assistant Collectors also participated.
In the meeting, the progress of pending DC bills and Utilization Certificates related to the 2022 Urban Body Elections was also reviewed.
The District administrations have been directed to complete all preparatory work within the stipulated time. OCAC provided the necessary technical support for the smooth conduct of the video conference. The State Election Commission said that an error-free voter list will further strengthen the democratic process at the grassroots level.
