₹40 lakh land deal fraud: Bhubaneswar police arrest accused after years on the run

Bhubaneswar: Laxmisagar Police have arrested a man in connection with a land cheating case and threatening to kill a complainant in the State Capital city.

The accused was found to have duped a person of Rs. 40 lakh in a land deal before threatening him and his family members.

The accused has been identified as Ramesh Chandra Sahoo.

As per reports, the accused entered into an agreement with a person to sell a piece of land at Begunia Mouza for Rs. 1.70 crore in the year 2018 and had taken Rs. 40 lakh in advance as part of the deal.

However, neither finalized the land registration process nor did he refund the advance amount to the complainant.

When the complainant approached the accused for the refund of the advance, the accused allegedly gave life threat to him and his family members.

Acting on the complaint, Laxmisagar Police initiated an investigation and based on a tip-off, managed to arrest Sahu who had been evading the police for a long time.

Further probe into the case by the Police found that the accused had been involved in three other cases of criminal activities at Airfield, Khandagiri and Badagada police stations.

After being arrested, the accused was produced in the court.
