Worm found in antibiotic strip issued at Udala Hospital, family alleges contaminated medicine

Udala: In a bizarre incident, a worm was reportedly found in a sealed packet of antibiotic strip supplied to a nine-year-old boy in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district.

As per reports, the child is a resident of Beguniadiha village and was taken to Udala Hospital on July 8 to receive medication for fever and cold.

The antibiotics were procured from the Niramaya medicines distribution centre within the hospital.

The parents said they were administering the prescribed medicines to their son as directed by the doctor.

But after three days, when the fresh strip was opened, a worm was spotted inside, and it seemed like one of the tabs inside the strip had tiny holes too.

The parents then discontinued the antibiotics to their son and urged a probe into the substandard medicine being distributed via the state government’s Niramaya programme.

Further details are awaited.
