Lightning Strike Kills Man in Nuapada Days After Wife’s Death

A lightning strike claimed the life of a man in Nuapada district, leaving his family devastated just days after his wife’s passing.
The victim, identified as Dhaneswar Majhi, 55, of Dangariguda village under Sinapali police limits, was struck on Saturday evening. Heavy rain and thunder accompanied the storm when Dhaneswar took shelter under a tree. The lightning hit, and he collapsed unconscious. Family members rushed him to the Sinapali Community Health Centre, where doctors declared him dead during treatment.
Police, led by SI Gourishankar Das under the direction of IIC Durgamadhab Bag, reached the spot and registered a case. The body was handed over to the family after the postmortem.
The tragedy comes at a time when the family was already mourning. Dhaneswar’s wife, Tulse Majhi, had died just a week earlier, and her rituals had not yet concluded. Their differently-abled daughter now faces life without both parents, leaving the family in dire need of government support.
