ASI suspended for taking Rs 20,000 bribe in Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: The Commisionerate police has suspended an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Rajesh Kullu from service with immediate effect after he was arrested for taking a Rs 20,000 bribe.

According to reports, the ASI along with a home guard was caught red handed by Odisha Vigilance team while accepting Rs 20,000 from an accused person to release mobile phones.

Vigilance had taken swift action against home under the provisions of Article 311(2)(b) of the Constitution of India.

Two Home Guards-HG Jyotiranjan Behera and HG Abdul Sarfaraj Khan were also involved in the case. However,  HG Abdul Sarfaraj Khan had reportedly escaped. Meanwhile, both the Home Guards have been served one month’s notice for termination of their services from the Home Guards organisation.

The ASI had allegedly demanded Rs 50,000 bribe to facilitate the release of mobile phones, seized from an accused person. He had reportedly received Rs 30,000 earlier, and was taking the Rs 20,000 bribe in Mancheswar police station when Vigilance nabbed him.

The Commissionerate Police has reiterated its zero-tolerance policy towards corruption and malpractice.
