IMD Issues Orange, Yellow Alerts as Thunderstorms, Gusty Winds Likely Across Odisha

Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty surface winds in several parts of Odisha on June 8, issuing orange and yellow weather alerts for multiple districts.

According to the IMD mid-day bulletin, thunderstorms with gusty winds reaching 50–60 kmph are very likely at isolated places over Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Nabarangpur, Koraput, and Malkangiri. An orange warning has been issued for these districts.

A yellow warning has also been issued for thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds of 40–50 kmph, likely during the afternoon and evening hours at isolated places over Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Sundargarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Boudh, Nuapada, Bolangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khurda, and Nayagarh.

In addition to storm activity, the IMD has warned of warm night conditions at isolated places over Boudh, Bolangir, and Kalahandi districts. Hot and humid conditions are also expected to persist across several coastal and interior districts, including Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Boudh, Bolangir, Kalahandi, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khurda, and Nayagarh.

The weather office has advised residents to exercise caution, particularly during outdoor activities, and to follow safety measures during thunderstorm conditions. It has further indicated that similar weather patterns may continue in parts of the state over the next day.
