60-year-old woman killed in elephant attack in Sundargarh

Banai: A 60-year-old woman was killed in elephant attack while she had gone to toilet near her house in Saleidihi village in Banki forest area under the Rourkela forest range in Odisha’s Sundargarh district.
The deceased has been identified as Jamuna Mohanta of Saleidihi village. She had gone to toilet near her house early in the morning when the elephant suddenly came face to face with an elephant. Before she could move to safety, the animal attacked and trampled her.
She died on the spot due to the injuries sustained in the attack. Villagers later spotted the body and informed local authorities.
After receiving information, the forest department and the police reached the spot and are trying to send the jumbo to the forest.
Officials from both departments reached the spot and began an inquiry into the incident.
Meanwhile, the residents of ward number-7 of Anandapur Municipality area are leaving in terror as a tusker was spotted roaming in the area.
