Three Orissa High Court Judges Ride Cycles to Office Amid Fuel Conservation Call

Bhubaneswar: In a symbolic gesture promoting fuel conservation amid the global energy crisis triggered by the ongoing Middle East war, three judges of the Orissa High Court in Cuttack rode bicycles to office on Monday.
Justice Savitri Ratho, Justice V. Narasingh and Justice Sibo Sankar Mishra travelled from their residences to the Orissa High Court on cycles, drawing attention from locals and court staff alike.
According to local residents, this was perhaps the first instance of judges of the Orissa High Court opting to shun their official vehicles and commute to office on bicycles.
The move comes amid appeals by both the Central and Odisha governments urging citizens to conserve fuel as part of preparedness measures to tackle the worldwide energy crisis.
People have been advised to reduce the use of personal vehicles and make greater use of public transport systems to help save fuel.
Setting an example for fuel conservation, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi have also reportedly reduced the size of their official cavalcades by half.
