IPL Betting Racket Busted in Sundargarh; Five Arrested, Cash and Accounts Seized

Bhubaneswar: Police have busted an Indian Premier League (IPL) betting racket operating in Odisha’s Sundargarh district and arrested five persons in connection with the illegal activity.
The racket was being run from the Rajgangpur area. Acting on a tip-off, the Superintendent of Police (SP) of Sundargarh directed the Rajgangpur police to take immediate action. A special team comprising five personnel conducted a raid on Sunday and apprehended five individuals involved in the operation.

The accused have been identified as Ranjan Kumar Sa, Rahul Sahu, Sanjay Kumar Mistry, Umesh Seth, and Niranjan Sahu.
During the raid, police seized cash amounting to Rs 6 lakh along with five mobile phones. Additionally, bank accounts linked to the accused, containing Rs 17.61 lakh, have been frozen.
An official from Rajgangpur police stated that a case has been registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), Odisha Prevention of Gambling (OPG) Act, and Public Gambling (PROG) Act. Further investigation is underway to uncover the broader network and possible links of the betting racket.
