Odisha Schools Directed To Take Heat Wave Precautions For Summer 2026

Bhubaneswar: The School and Mass Education Department has issued a directive to all schools across Odisha to adopt precautionary measures in view of the anticipated heat wave conditions during the summer of 2026.

In a letter addressed to Directors and District Education Officers, the department stressed the need for proactive steps to safeguard students and staff from extreme heat. Schools have been instructed to ensure the availability of adequate drinking water, keep Oral Rehydration Salts (ORS) packets in stock, and limit outdoor activities during peak heat hours.

Among the key measures outlined in the advisory are the immediate repair of tube wells to guarantee uninterrupted drinking water supply on campus and the maintenance of sufficient ORS packets for both students and staff. Schools have also been asked to sensitize parents about the importance of sending children to school with water bottles.

Additionally, institutions have been directed to allocate time during school hours to educate students about heat wave precautions and safety tips.

The advisory is applicable to all government, government-aided, and private schools in the state. The guidelines issued by the Special Relief Commissioner, Odisha, have also been shared for reference and necessary compliance.
