1,499 Smart Meter Billing Complaints Reported in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: Odisha’s power distribution companies received 1,499 complaints over incorrect billing from smart prepaid meters in the last two years, the state Assembly was informed.
Deputy Chief Minister and Energy Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo said all reported billing complaints have been resolved. He added that smart prepaid meter installation is continuing across the state, with Khordha recording the highest installations at 36,744, followed by Ganjam (16,304) and Cuttack (13,964).

Installations remain comparatively low in Balangir (1,221), Jajpur (606), Sonepur (576), Deogarh (476), Nuapada (455) and Keonjhar (382). The government, however, did not disclose district-wise figures for billing complaints.
On agricultural power supply in Balangir, Singh Deo said farm feeders received an average of 23 hours and 25 minutes of daytime electricity during the last irrigation season. He also said 5,419 agricultural pump-set connections were pending—5,310 at the consumer end and 109 with TPWODL.
