Woman Dies by Suicide in Mayurbhanj Days After Boyfriend’s Snakebite Death

Bhubaneswar: A young woman allegedly died by suicide in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district on Sunday, reportedly unable to overcome the grief of losing her boyfriend, who had died after a snakebite just four days earlier.

The deceased, identified as Devi Singh of Dimagadia village under Udala police limits, was found hanging behind her residence by family members on Sunday. She was immediately taken to the Udala Sub-Divisional Hospital, where doctors declared her dead.

According to preliminary reports, Devi had been in a long-term relationship with a man identified as Pintu, who was employed in the Nalconagar area of Angul district. A few days ago, he was allegedly bitten by a venomous snake while at work and was admitted to hospital for treatment. Despite medical efforts, he succumbed to the snakebite.

Relatives claimed that Devi had been deeply affected by Pintu’s death and had remained emotionally distressed in the days that followed. They believe she was unable to cope with the loss and allegedly ended her life.

After being informed, police reached the village, recovered the body, and sent it for post-mortem examination.

A case has been registered, and investigators are examining all aspects of the incident to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the woman’s death.
