Stalin launches door-to door ration delivery for senior citizens

Tamil Nadu: Tamil Nadu has launched the Chief Minister’s Thayumanavar Scheme to deliver essential commodities under directly to the homes of senior citizens and differently abled people from August 12. The scheme will operate under the Public Distribution System (PDS).

According to the reports, it will benefit 21.7 lakh people holding 16.73 lakh ration cards. This includes 15.81 lakh cards with one or more seniors which covers up to 20.24 lakh individuals and 91,969 cards with one or more differently abled persons, covering up to 1.27 lakh beneficiaries.

Staff will visit each beneficiary’s homes on the second Saturday and Sunday of every month. They will bring rice, sugar, wheat, oil and toor dal in mini-vans or other vehicles fitted with Point-of-Scales (PoS) machines and weighing scales. They staff will to verify Aadhaar details before handling over the items at the doorstep.

The scheme will reportedly give priority to households where all members are above 70 years of age with no adult above 18 and households where all members are differently abled or only one member is differently abled with no other adult above 18.
