Search operation intensifies for youth swept away in canal near Vani Vihar

Bhubaneswar: Search for youth swept away in canal near Vani Vihar continues for the second day on Sunday.

A youth, identified as Anil, was allegedly washed away in the canal while collecting garbage near Vani Vihar here on Saturday afternoon.

Soon after receiving information, Fire Services, ODRAF and Strike Force teams reached the site and started a rescue operation.

Personnel conducted search in the canal for around seven hours but couldn’t trace the missing person as the water was filled with tonnes of waste.

The rescue operation was called off around 9 PM because of the darkness and has begun this morning.

Authorities confirmed that huge quantities of trash had collected in the canal and formed a huge hurdle in the ongoing search operation.

To make sure Anil is rescued, special technology and machinery will be utilized to enhance search and rescue operations on Sunday.

Meanwhile, many locals have assembled near the canal and Anil’s family members haven’t arrived at the scene yet.

Reports suggest Anil hails from Kantagad area of Keonjhar district.
