Prof. Chandi Prasad Nanda Assumes Charge as Utkal University Vice-Chancellor

Bhubaneswar: Professor Chandi Prasad Nanda formally assumed charge as the Vice-Chancellor of Utkal University on Monday, marking a new chapter in the leadership of Odisha’s oldest and most prestigious university.

A distinguished historian with nearly three decades of experience in teaching and academic administration, Prof. Nanda previously served as the Head of the Odisha Research Centre. His appointment has sparked optimism within the academic community, with expectations that he will enhance academic standards, promote quality research, and improve administrative efficiency.

Soon after taking charge, Prof. Nanda began his day by visiting the Jagannath Temple and Maa Talapadeswari Temple located within the university campus, where he offered prayers. He later formally took over responsibilities from the outgoing in-charge Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Jagneshwar Dandapat.

In a notable gesture, the newly appointed Vice-Chancellor donated blood at a camp organised by the NSS Unit of Utkal University as part of the Odia Pakhya celebrations. He also held interactions with faculty members and staff, emphasising the importance of energy efficiency, sustainability, cleanliness, and the effective use of research for institutional development.

In the afternoon, Prof. Nanda inaugurated ‘Odia Khadya Divas’ at the BARC Outreach Centre, celebrating traditional Odia cuisine.

Later in the evening, he paid a courtesy visit to the Governor of Odisha and Chancellor of the University, accompanied by Registrar Dr Swati Mishra. Discussions during the meeting focused on the future growth and development of the university.

Prof. Nanda also highlighted the need to prepare a White Paper addressing key challenges faced by the institution and stressed making the campus clean and green. Additionally, he cleared several pending personal claim files of staff members, signalling a proactive administrative approach.
