Odisha Vigilance Arrests Irrigation Engineer for Possession of Disproportionate Assets

Rourkela: Odisha Vigilance on Monday arrested Surendra Behera, Superintending Engineer of Irrigation Division, Angul, for amassing assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.
During simultaneous raids at multiple locations, Vigilance officials unearthed properties and valuables allegedly linked to Behera, including two multi-storey buildings, two flats in Bhubaneswar, four high-value plots, cash amounting to ₹2.33 lakh, and bank deposits worth around ₹54 lakh. Behera reportedly failed to provide a satisfactory explanation for the assets.

The searches were carried out across eight locations in Bhubaneswar, Rourkela, Sundargarh, Angul, and Ganjam. The operation was led by three DSPs, ten Inspectors, four ASIs, and supporting staff.
A case has been registered against Behera under the Prevention of Corruption Act. He is scheduled to be produced before the Court of the Special Judge, Vigilance, Sundargarh, today.
