Odisha Transport Dept Partners with IOCL for Truck Terminals

The Odisha Commerce and Transport Department has signed an MoU with Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) to manage and maintain modern truck terminals being developed along national highways.
The initiative aims to reduce road accidents caused by heavy vehicles parked illegally on highways and provide safer facilities for truck drivers.

Under the agreement, IOCL will oversee the operation, management and daily maintenance of the terminals. Officials said more than 300 people die every year in Odisha in accidents involving improperly parked vehicles.
The state plans to establish 30 truck terminals near NHs across different districts in the first phase. Construction of 15 terminals has already been completed.
The terminals will offer designated parking spaces, driver rest areas, canteens, drinking water and other basic amenities, helping long-distance truck drivers avoid unsafe roadside parking and resting.
