Odisha Govt Plans Heritage Policy for Conservation of Monuments

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government is planning to introduce a heritage policy aimed at ensuring the conservation and safety of monuments across the state.

The decision was taken at a joint meeting of the Tourism, Culture, and Works Departments, chaired by Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida, where it was resolved to form a task force to draft the policy.

“The proposed heritage policy will cover the conservation of over 3,000 monuments in Odisha,” Parida said, stressing the government’s commitment to preserving cultural assets.

As per the plan, the Culture Department will frame the policy, while the Tourism Department will identify 75 priority destinations. Initial focus will be on safeguarding these sites, followed by infrastructure development to promote tourism.

Parida also highlighted the government’s concern over protecting monuments and manuscripts recently unearthed in Ratnagiri.

Once finalised, the heritage policy is expected to provide a comprehensive framework for the preservation and promotion of Odisha’s vast cultural legacy.
