Odisha Government Doubles Uniform Allowance for Prison Staff

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has doubled the annual uniform allowance for officers and employees working in the State’s prisons department, following approval by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi.
Under the revised provision, the annual clothing allowance for 378 officers, from the rank of Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Prisons to Assistant Matron, has been increased from Rs 3,000 to Rs 6,000.

Similarly, 2,122 chief warders, warders and women warders will now receive Rs 8,000 annually as uniform allowance, up from the existing Rs 4,000.
The decision will benefit around 2,500 personnel of the prisons department across the State.
The revised allowance will come into effect from the current financial year. According to officials, the enhancement will entail an additional annual expenditure of approximately Rs 96.22 lakh for the State government.
The move is aimed at providing better uniform-related support to prison personnel and ensuring that the allowance is in line with their official requirements.
